20 reasons why you need a VPN

A VPN can do much more than fake your location and encrypt your data. The number of Aussies using a VPN is on the up, and that’s a trend that we’ve watched, generally unsurprised, over the last few years. According to a recent study by IT Wire, in the period between 2020 and 2024 the percentage of Australian using a VPN frequently has climbed from 25.1% to 27.1%.

In this day and age you just can’t beat the feeling of knowing with reasonable certainty that you can exist in stealth mode online. VPNs also break down global barriers, allowing access to content and services that you just can’t get here. That includes shopping, with huge savings on tap just by buying what you would here, via the same company in another location. Travel is a big one here – booking flights, hotels and rental cars via a foreign country can virtually eliminate the ‘Australia tax’.

A good VPN is also very quick, and the bad old days of enjoying VPN privacy at the expense of snappy site loading are long gone. If that’s the reason holding you back fear not, with a good VPN using fast local servers you honestly won’t even know it’s running.

Take a look at our big feature all about VPNs in this issue. We’ll explain all the benefits, many of which may surprise you, and show you how to get the most from your VPN.
